Maria M. Delgado, Consultant to Latin America Program
Maria is a long-time human rights activist, co-founded and worked for 18 years with Service for Peace and Justice (SERPAJ) in her native Uruguay. From 1995 to 2003, she worked with International Service for Peace (SIPAZ), promoting the peace process in Chiapas, Mexico. She served as an electoral observer for the OAS from 1998 to 2001. She has been a regular participant in the World Social Forum and the Americas Social Forum. In 2005-2006 she worked as a consultant with Jubilee South/Americas, a leading social movement network on international debt issues. In recent years she has also done consultancy work for the A.J. Muste Institute, for Forging Alliances South and North, for the Women Peacemakers Program of IFOR (International Fellowship of Reconciliation), and for the Fund for Nonviolence. Since 2004, she has served on the Grantmaking Advisory Committee for the Appleton Foundation/Fund for Nonviolence Latin America Collaborative Program. She has a Master’s degree in Gender and Peacebuilding from the University for Peace (Costa Rica). Maria lives in Montevideo, Uruguay, though traveling extensively, with her partner and two teen-aged sons.
