Rebecca has been an advocate for human rights and social justice philanthropy for over twenty years. In this capacity, in April of 2013 she joined The Proteus Fund to help launch a new fund, the Themis Fund, in support of efforts within the US to end capital punishment. Prior to joining Proteus, Rebecca served as a Senior Program Executive with the Social Justice Program at The Arcus Foundation in New York. Her work involved moving philanthropic resources and cross-sector alliances in support of efforts in the US and internationally that advance the access of rights and justice for the LGBT community. From 2001 to 2010, Rebecca was a Program Executive with the US Reconciliation and Human Rights program at The Atlantic Philanthropies, where from 2001 to 2004 she helped shape its work in promoting higher education and public health in Viet Nam and Australia. In 2004, she developed Atlantic’s US Human Rights and Reconciliation portfolio, and led that grantmaking until her departure in 2010. During this period, Rebecca successfully built coalition and field capacity in a number of US human rights movements, including immigrant rights, the disenfranchisement of formerly incarcerated people, and abolition of the death penalty.
