Latin America Program
By invitation only

CORE PRINCIPLE
We see our funding in Latin America as an act of solidarity in a joint commitment to create the just societies that we all desire.

MISSION
The mission of the Latin America program is to foster political and social change in the Americas that addresses the root causes of violence; to support efforts whose own organizational structures and process reflect the new society sought and where those who are most impacted by violence in their society have a strong voice in creating a more just society.

GOALS

To strengthen social movements and networks in Latin America whose work for systemic change represents voices of impacted communities challenging concentrated economic and political power and creating alternatives. Areas of focus include:

  • Promoting human rights—political and civil, as well as economic, social and cultural rights as recognized in international agreements
  • Resisting economic exploitation and injustice (including corporate-led globalization, illegitimate foreign debt, privatization of services and natural resources) and promoting alternatives (such as fair trade initiatives, food security, debt audits)
  • Challenging state-sponsored violence and militarization and promoting peace-building and nonviolent conflict transformation
  • Encouraging North/South collaboration in support of social movements

As a U.S.-based foundation our institutional goals include being part of efforts to improve relationships between funders and organizations/networks in Latin America. We see our funding as an act of solidarity in a joint commitment to create the just societies that we all desire.
